Almost half of Americans believe God created humans 10,000 years ago – And only a third believe in Darwinian theory. Here’s a test — how many of those “non-believers” would be willing to forego any science developed in the last 150 years based on Darwin’s work?
Aside
Have you read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn? It’s a great book if you have not. In it, one of the characters asks another to tell the story of creation. The character goes through a rough outline of Darwinism and ends it saying something like “and then humans evolved,” implying that humans were the end product of evolution and that everything to that point was merely a prelude.
Now, if one changes the view from humans are the end product and somehow special and seperate from everything esle to a situation where humans are just like everything else, that cuts even deeper into our society and beliefs. All of a sudden, we don’t matter any more than the fly or the dog. We aren’t special.
If you haven’t read it, you should. I think it’s definitely a book that you’d like.
