This is a great topic, and I’m glad that Colin wrote this piece (and happy that you are promoting it in your blog). The USNWR rankings always get two-faced service – people deride their ranking methods, but proudly display high numbers (and fret when ranks slip). I grew tired of having to answer to this sort of system long ago, and have pointedly recommended refusal to cooperate with such a corrupt system.
If more institutions acted as they felt – like Reed did under its previous president – the combined strength could topple this meaningless dance.
