Why did Apple choose those hideous “glossy” LCD screens for their new MacBook consumer laptops? Ars Technica says its because consumers are idiots who say “ooh, shiny!” and plunk down their credit cards. Okay, fine, just as long as I never have to choose between cost savings and a good screen — oh wait, I do.
Aside
I don’t know how accurate it is, and I have no proof to back it up, but I still like my theory – having the MB available only in glossy forces all the “pro” users (who’d never be caught dead with a glossy screen) to “upgrade” (AKA spend an extra $1k) on the MBP…
But…but…its smaller and just as powerful! And longer battery life! Oh, the pain.
