I Am Charlotte Simmons – Lacking – I’ve read several reviews of this book and still am not sure if it is something I would want to pick up. This review about sums up how I feel about the book as of now — without having read it, of course.

A friend of mine who was highly anticipating the book hated it, but one of my managers was reading it today and liking it.

Skip it. It’s an embarrasingly ill-conceived book that indicates that Tom Wolfe must be surrounding himself with editors who are sychophants who didn’t try to stop this turkey as they probably would have in his younger days. I actually went to his reading yesterday at the LA Public Library, and some poor guy brought him one of his older classics to sign, and Wolfe refused and actually got his goons to escort the guy out. And this was not a bookstore but the LA Public Library! It appears that Wolfe is so desperate to sell this new turkey he’s going to sign every copy out there before they get remaindered.
Bill, heard of spell check? When you want to critique someone in an ill-mannered way, at least spell the words correctly. Come on…
